Biography
Nan Montgomery lives and works
in the Washington, D.C. area. She was born in Boston, Massachusetts and
spent her childhood in rural Vermont and New Hampshire. After attending
the Boston Museum School of Fine Arts where she majored in printmaking,
she transferred to the Yale University School of Art where she majored
in painting with Josef Albers. She graduated from Yale with a Bachelor
of Fine Arts. Moving to the Washington area, she attended the Corcoran
School of Art. In the
fall of 2003, she attended the Julia & David White Artists Colony in
Ciudad Colon, Costa Rica. Her work is represented in the permanent collections of
the Corcoran Gallery of Art, The Washington Post, Artery Organization,
American Federation of Teachers and the New Washington Convention Center
as well as private collections. Committed to abstraction and purity of
form, her work is unified in the dichotomies of natural and material,
restriction and freedom, hard edge and soft, all consistent with her
personal history. |
